Become an Instructor

Do you have a special skill or talent? Do you dance, paint, or teach lessons of any sort? Thank you for your interest in becoming a Class Instructor with the North Highlands Recreation & Park District. We are excited about the possibility of working together to reach our common goals and to serve the community. NHRPD offers a wide variety of seminars, classes and activities. Your involvement will only help expand and contribute to the overall success of our programs.

What is an Instructor?

With North Highlands Recreation and Park District all Instructors are considered Independent Contractors. This is a person or business who performs services for another person under an expressed or implied agreement and who is not subject to the other’s control or right to control, the manner and means of performing the services; not as an employee.

How to become an Instructor?

  1. Submit an Application and New Class Proposal to the Recreation Supervisor, either in person, 6040 Watt Avenue, or by email at
    *Please note, submitting does not guarantee that the class or activity will be added to NHRPD's recreation programming.
  2. After review, the Recreation Supervisor will set up an in person meeting to discuss further or deny the new class proposal.
  3. Once the details of the new class proposal and agreement are confirmed you must submit all required documents as well as pass a Department of Justice fingerprint scan.
  4. An agreement will be produced outlining the specifics of the course or activity you agree to instruct.

Class Pricing/Compensation

As a contractor you establish the price for your services. The program split is negotiable. Instructors are paid after the class has come to a conclusion.
